FDA Warns Against Illegal Silicone Injections for Body Contouring and Enhancement

Beware of anyone who offers to increase the size of any part of your body, or change the shape of your body, by injecting dermal fillers.

These procedures can lead to serious health consequences—and even death.

Injectable dermal fillers are medical devices regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

But no injectable filler is FDA-approved for large-scale body contouring or body enhancement. Unfortunately, one popular filler used for body contouring is injectable silicone. Silicone is a liquid that stays in the body permanently.

It can travel throughout the body and cause serious health consequences, including permanent carring or disfigurement, stroke, and even death.

Many unapproved injections are done by unlicensed and unqualified providers, and in nonmedical settings like hotels and residences. The FDA has investigated numerous criminal cases involving unapproved dermal fillers—and many have ended in successful prosecutions.

Don’t be duped. Avoid danger and never get butt fillers, breast fillers, or fillers between your muscles—or any injectable filler for large-scale body enhancement.
